Balance and Strength
Pilates
Through Pilates, we can increase circulation while also improving posture, strengthening the core and creating longer, leaner muscles.
Why Pilates
You’ve heard that Pilates exercises have great benefits – they are low-impact on your joints, are great for rehabilitation, improving flexibility, posture and building core strength. But, have you tried Pilates? There are reasons to experience Pilates across all athletic abilities. For athletes, Pilates can give you a more efficient runner’s stride, a stronger tennis serve, a more consistent golf swing, or a higher jump to make that lay up. For special needs populations, such as people with osteoporosis, herniated or bulging discs, post-rehab for a joint injury, or pre- and postnatally, Pilates can invigorate you when normally exercise is difficult or uncomfortable. Pilates exercises dramatically improve balance, coordination and circulation in practitioners of all ages. With over 500 exercises to choose from, our instructors are trained to cater to your needs and bring you to the edge of your training zone, so you come out of the session stronger, taller, and more energized.
Have you experienced a Stott Pilates session at DC’s largest studio? Or, do you prefer to work out one-on-one? A Pilates trainer can customize sessions for you in our private studio space.
After practicing Pilates at MINT, several of our members had the following inspiring experiences to share:
“Nothing has made me as strong as this. Nothing. I lifted weights for years and I don’t even use weights any more. I don’t need to. I get everything I need from pilates.
I look better in skirts because my calves are much more shapely. I have better posture, I have a flatter belly, and a firmer bum.
In addition to that it gets rid of my back pain.” Judy Mills
“I am the mother of two toddlers who are exactly 12 months apart, so having two consecutive pregnancies really took its toll on my body. After having my second son, as soon as I was cleared by my doctor, I wanted to start working out. I tried some of the traditional exercise, and even enlisted in a 6-Week “Fitness Challenge” but I had to drop out because I was in such terrible shape. Then I discovered reformer pilates and literally my entire life changed.
My reformer pilates instructor Timea Presley is phenomenal. I mean, phenomenal. When I took my first pilates session, I could not even locate my abs to make my stomach go in and out. And that was heartbreaking for a person who used to have a stunning figure. So Timea started with baby steps, teaching me to breathe, control my breath and find my flimsy core muscles. Eventually we worked our way up to more involved exercises but not until I was ready.
I have been taking pilates now for about a year and have seen remarkable results. I have lost about 30 pounds which is the smallest victory. I feel better, I literally used to have to take pain pills daily for my lower back pain but now my back pain is gone, I can lift my kids and go to bed at night without lying there in pain. So many of my physical ailments have been rehabilitated after working out with Timea.” Amanda Littlejohn
