You’ve seen the lists: “10 ways to save money during this bad economy.” Gym memberships are often put at the top of the list, right alongside cable television subscriptions. But I’m of the mindset that you shouldn’t even consider giving up your gym membership, in ANY economy. Your gym is an incredible value from your entertainment dollar- on average, a single meal out costs well over half what your gym membership costs per month- and your gym doesn’t limit your time:log more time there and less time eating out. How to Choose a Health Club

So obviously as founder of MINT, I’m biased about our club being an excellent choice in your health club, but that’s not to say MINT is for everyone. Some things to consider when choosing a health club, based on feedback of my 15 years in the business:
Atmosphere. Do you feel at home at the club? Are people friendly? (members and staff). Take it all in-music level, lighting, and the overall vibe-is it YOU?
Cleanliness- Always neat the top of everyone’s list, and especially important in these times. A minimal superficial cleaning is usually standard in today’s urban clubs, but peak behind furniture and in corners when taking a tour-this tells a lot about how often and how thorough a club is cleaned.
Staff expertise- Each club has a different approach and policies regarding staff credentials. Websites should tell particulars of the staff’s education and experience, and everyone weighs differently the importance of degrees, certifications, and experience. You can tell a lot by just asking staff when you tour a club; and asking your membership rep about their personal experience, and the trainers & instructors qualifications, also.
Reputation- Ask around-no doubt you have friend, or friends of friends who have experienced each club (more…)
