Ready to get back to the gym? MINT is open for by-appointment gym visits with many important changes, including mandatory mask-use while working out.
We understand that it can be overwhelming to pick out the right face covering for exercise, but here are a few key guidelines to help you work out safely and effectively.
FABRIC – Look for masks made of light, breathable, stretchy, and moisture-wicking fabric. Try to find the same type of material you’d look for in your workout clothes. Materials like spandex, polyester, or cotton can help allow for comfortable breathing and wick away sweat while still preventing the spread of the virus.
FIT – Make sure your face covering has a tight seal around the nose and mouth, but that you are still able to breathe comfortably. It’s also important to consider how your face covering is fastened. If your mask ties on or has elastic straps, adjust them so they are tight enough to keep your mask in place. Other face coverings typically made for exercise are buffs or gaiters, which fit around the neck but allow you to pull the fabric over the mouth.
EFFECTIVENESS – There are a few ways to test the effectiveness of your mask. Hold it up to a light source (sunlight, flashlight etc.) If you can see the light through the fabric, it’s not woven tightly enough. Your face covering is also probably not effective enough if you can blow out a candle while wearing it.
It may take some getting used to, but wearing your face covering at MINT will help keep the gym a safe place for everyone. We thank you all for doing your part in helping to stop the spread.
