MINT trainer Enrique Flores began as a kickboxing and boxing instructor several years ago. His classes were so popular that members began to ask him if he could program individual workouts for them to use on their own time. Enrique discovered that he enjoyed helping others achieve their fitness goals and became a trainer. He now has his Boxing Coach’s Certification under USA Boxing and is licensed as both an amateur boxer and a FILA/USA international wrestler.
Did you know that Enrique does mixed martial arts? In fact, he has competed at both the featherweight (145 pounds) and the bantamweight (135) divisions and has fought in many international events, most notably the 2016 U.S Open Men’s Freestyle wrestling competition in which he finished 10th in an attempt to qualify for the Olympic Trials.
His training style is designed to make his clients stronger at a comfortable pace so they can improve their fitness level without plateauing. Training with Enrique is similar to training like a competitive athlete — workouts that are designed to help you train as hard as a boxer without getting in the ring.
Enrique’s advice to anyone interested in personal training for the first time: “Give it a try, you never know what you might learn from your trainer that ultimately will change your life physically and mentally. It’s an investment that will better your life.”
Outside of the gym, his favorite outdoor activities in the DC area include walking with his pup Lola along 14th street, hiking in Shenandoah National Park, and — lately — participating in virtual cooking classes. Enrique plans to offer boxing classes for local kids and virtual home boxing classes for couples in the near future.
